Girisha V

Finance Associate
Girisha became our Finance Assistant in January 2019, before which he was our Administration Assistant. He has completed his 1st PUC and has worked in a mobile shop, run a taxi service, and worked as a caterer.

Joyatri Ray

Director, EQUATIONS
Joyatri has served in UNWOMEN (formerly known as UNIFEM), with a particular focus on Women’s Human Rights. She has also served as Director – Corporate Social Responsibility for ING entities in India.

She is presently the Director at EQUATIONS, overseeing all institutional and organisational matters. Her interest lies in making tourism destinations safe and sustainable especially for women and children.

Kapila Gureja

State Representative - Northern Region
Kapila Gureja joined Equations in the capacity of State Representative- Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. She will support the team in networking and advocacy at the National level. She has started her career as a Special Educator and worked with many National and International organizations. Her expertise lies in running campaigns, developing coalitions and networks, bringing social issues to policy-makers attention.
She is an explorer by nature and loves to travel. She believes that following any art form makes you a better Human being. She considers herself a lifelong student of various Indian traditional art forms.

Mehrun Siddique

State Representative - Madhya Pradesh
Founder of NGO Adhar which worked with the vulnerable children and women of Khajuraho. She has been working with this community for past 15 years – creating livelihood opportunities for women in order to make them economically independent.

Nino Charles

Programme Support Officer
Nino comes equipped with a masters degree in Social Work from Roshni Nilaya , Mangalore. She is also a certified Master Trainer for Cambridge University and is a qualified therapist. In her free time, she plays agony aunt, loves to travel, cook and feed people.

In EQUATIONS she coordinates the Tourism Resource Centre which includes EQUATIONS publications, the library and the website. She is responsible for the internal and external communication systems and external engagement of EQUATIONS. She’s previously worked with Samvada, Legacy School, Murray Culshaw Consulting, Deepalaya and Guestline Days. She has also been a behaviour & soft skills trainer and has trained and developed a digital course in communications and fund-raising.

Siddhi Pendke

Lead - Heritage, Communities and Tourism
Siddhi has a Masters in Development from Azim Premji University. She has experience in working with minorities through research and fact findings into communal incidents.
At EQUATIONS’ she works on child and women related issues in tourism across four states.
Apart from work she loves to paint and DIY, is a diehard foodie and experiments in cooking different Indian cuisines

Simran Kashyap

Researcher - Alternative Tourism
Simran Kashyap holds an MBA in Tourism and Travel Management from Pondicherry University. She has been associated with Community Based Tourism Projects at rural villages of India in regards as a researcher and development consultant. She was also involved in projects to propagate alternative tourism as a sustainable tool for local community development. She has published research papers at scopus indexed journals and Book chapters on the academic front. She also strongly advocates the role of tourism education for a transformative tourism industry and is the co-founder of tourism student’s organisation: The Confederation of Tourism Students, India.
At Equations, she is working as a researcher on Alternative Tourism Initiatives and Practices responsible for building strategic interfaces with alternative tourism practitioners in India.
In her free time, you will either find her watching travel shows on Netflix, or adding books to her home library and self publishing her food reviews over social media.

Sophia V

Admin & HR Associate
Sophia joined EQUATIONS in March 2018. Sophia has earlier been with Bal Pharma, Airtel and Lead Pro Consultancy Pvt Ltd as data entry and backend executive. She has completed her PUC.
She is cheerful fantastic cook who loves to feed people.

Suhotra Biswas

State Represntative - West Bengal, Lead - Child & Tourism
Suhotra Biswas, born and brought up in Kolkata. I completed my MSW and PG diploma in counselling. working in development sector for more than 24 years. Worked in various community based organizations, national and international level funding agencies like CRY – Child Right & You and Railway Children -UK.
A certified Arts based practitioner and trained in psycho social support skill building . Worked on issues related to child rights and with special focus on child protection and child participation. Experienced in working closely with different vulnerable group like PLWHA, women forced into sex trade, children in conflict with law, gender variant boys, people in drug addiction, run away children etc.
Skilled in program management, MEL  and training and capacity building. Trained on Child Safe Guard by Keeping Children Safe – England.
 A born nature lover , Love travelling, trekking and camping and keenly interested in exploring and conserving indigenous culture and various forms of folk arts.  other hobbies include gardening, bird watching.   

Suma T R

State Representative - Kerala, Lead - Protected Areas, Communities and Tourism
Suma has a postgraduate degree in Tourism management and Journalism and Mass Communication and PhD in Anthropology. She has more than 15 years of experience in working with Adivasi and farming communities of Kerala.

Previously she has worked as visual media journalist and documentary maker with Kairali TV; Research associate with Centre for Development studies and a social scientist with M S Swaminathan Research Foundation.She has published more than 15 research papers in peer reviewed journals and more than 20 popular articles in regional language Malayalam.

EQUATIONS is a research, policy, and advocacy organisation working on tourism and development issues in India. Our work has focused on the economic, environmental, social, cultural, political and administrative impacts of tourism particularly on people living in and around tourism destinations. We collaborate closely with organisations and peoples movements, to influence people-centered forms of tourism & policies that ensure significant local benefits and take into account the negative impacts of an unbridled growth of tourism.
